Office of the Provost - A message from Provost Moore: Dean Sharon Matusik to leave CU Boulder for position in Michigan

Dear colleagues:

Today, I鈥檓 announcing that Leeds School of Business Dean Sharon Matusik has accepted the Edward J. Frey Dean of Business position at the University of Michigan's Ross School of Business. Sharon will serve out the remainder of the academic year, which ends on June 30. Shortly, I plan to announce interim leadership and a search process for naming Sharon鈥檚 successor.

Sharon has served as a highly focused and deeply committed leader throughout her 18 years at CU Boulder, five and a half of which as dean. Here a just few of her accomplishments:

  • Positioned Leeds as a top 20 undergraduate public business school as well as a top 40 MBA program.
  • Built innovative graduate programs that reflect the changing needs of the workforce, including a new MBA program for working professionals and an executive MBA.
  • Guided Leeds using her areas of expertise that mirror the dynamic Boulder eco-system: entrepreneurship, innovation, growth strategies, knowledge assets and venture capital.
  • Provided a strategic vision and principal priorities鈥擝usiness & Engineering, Career Impact and End the Gap鈥攚hich played a central role in the Leeds School鈥檚 rising reputation in research and academic excellence.
  • Partnered with the College of Engineering and Applied Science on the Rustandy Building, the first-of-its-kind partnership, which physically joins two buildings and two CU Boulder colleges to bring the world of business and technology together to better prepare students for entering a global economy. Programs such as the Business + Engineering Technology Scholars Program are a product of this partnership and vision.

I can鈥檛 thank Sharon enough for her strong leadership and collaborative spirit that have advanced the prominence and impact of the Leeds School and have positioned us to seek leadership that will take Leeds to all new levels of success.

Please join me in congratulating Sharon and wishing her well in her new position.

Sincerely,

Russ

Russ Moore, provost
