Project Description
The Future of Work Collaboratory (FWC) at CU has two open positions for undergrad research assistants. The FWC is an interdisciplinary research effort across Civil Engineering, Computer Science, and Psychology. It is funded by the National Science Foundation. After two years of R&D and prototype testing, we are about to launch a large-scale study that would provide opportunities for engineering students to gain valuable hands-on research experiences. You will assist our team in two areas. First, you will contribute to our data collection effort, which involves assisting the taskmaster (a graduate student in Civil Engineering) to guide study participants through a pipe assembling task while wearing an Augmented Reality (AR) headset and assisting the tech manager (a graduate student in Computer Science) to maintain and troubleshoot our AR equipment. Second, you will contribute to the data analysis effort, which involves organizing, cleaning, and labeling data collected from our experiments.听
Special Requirements
- Good communication skills: You will need to talk with study participants.
- Familiarity with VR or AR technologies: You will receive training to work with Microsoft鈥檚 Hololens 2 device. Prior experiences with other VR/AR technologies such as Occulus or HTC can be an asset.
- Programming Experiences: You should have taken CSCI 1300 or equivalent. Data analysis may involve some level of coding.
- 3D Modeling Experiences: Since our research prototype is built by a combination of Fusion 360 and Unity. Prior experiences in these tools are desired but not required.
- Construction Experiences: Since our study involves construction craft workers, any prior experiences in construction, such as a home DIY plumbing project or a summer job, can be an asset, but not required.
