Nelson, (he/him/el), was born in El Salvador and raised in Los Angeles California. He earned his BA in Chicana/o Studies, History and Education at UCLA. He spent the next fourteen years living in New York City where he earned his MA in Higher Education: Organization & Leadership from Columbia University and worked as an academic advisor for CUNY. In his previous workspaces he has excelled in relationship building, collaboration, program development/facilitation, and strengthening autonomy within historically disadvantaged communities. In addition, he is currently pursuing a PhD in the School of Education here at CU in the Learning Sciences & Human Development program. He is looking forward to bringing his experience and skill set to contribute to the CU Alumni Association. Specifically, he is enthused to work and co-designing with the CU affinity groups and assist in building a strong, fruitful, and joyful experience for all involved.
Away from work he treasures his time with his family/friends, his partner Sarah and two sons, Cruz & Niko León. He’s a foodie who enjoys 90’s hip hop, traveling, sports, the outdoors, and art that speaks to the experience of historically disenfranchised communities.
