That’s a heavy load, but Rodney isn’t intimidated by a full calendar—as a full-time student, she was chief of staff at WorkIt, a venture associate at the Techstars accelerator and managing director of the Deming Center Venture Fund.</p> <p>“What my scholarship gave me, more than anything, was time,” Rodney said. “Which is funny to hear myself say, since I have no time.”</p> <p>Her scholarships, she said, “gave me the freedom to find the positions and roles I wanted to lean into. Without doing any of that, I wouldn’t have gotten my full-time position, which has been a perfect fit for what I wanted to do.”</p> <p>Rodney is now a senior associate at Boulder-based Massive, a venture capital firm that specializes in technology, especially B2B SaaS, financial, climate and frontier technologies. The company is currently closing its first deal of the year, and Rodney got to be a contributor to the investment memo that went to Massive’s investors and members, “so I got to see that whole process and feel like my work was getting noticed almost right away.”</p> <p>Her work co-leading the Deming Center Venture Fund helped pave the way for her career aspirations. The fund is fully student run, which gives its leadership<br> a lot of freedom in exploring and understanding opportunities in this space, as well as extensive professional development and networking.</p> <p>“You really get to lean into whatever portion of the entrepreneurial process is most interesting to you,” she said. “For me, that’s finance, but you also get to meet people interested in the legal side, or other areas outside the business school.”</p> <p><a class="ucb-link-button ucb-link-button-black ucb-link-button-regular ucb-link-button-default" href="https://giving.cu.edu/fund/mba-scholarship-fund" rel="nofollow"> <span class="ucb-link-button-contents">Help Support Students Like Maggie</span> </a> </p></div> </div> </div> </div> </div> <div>Traditional</div> <div>0</div> <div>On</div> <div>White</div> Fri, 06 May 2022 18:50:59 +0000 Anonymous 16911 at /business Anna Bedell (Mktg’25) /business/give/2022/05/06/anna-bedell-mktg25 <span>Anna Bedell (Mktg’25)</span> <span><span>Anonymous (not verified)</span></span> <span><time datetime="2022-05-06T12:50:52-06:00" title="Friday, May 6, 2022 - 12:50">Fri, 05/06/2022 - 12:50</time> </span> <div> <div class="imageMediaStyle focal_image_wide"> <img loading="lazy" src="/business/sites/default/files/styles/focal_image_wide/public/article-thumbnail/anna.png?h=4d01b2b0&amp;itok=wecZ6QeA" width="1200" height="600" alt="Anna Bedell"> </div> </div> <div role="contentinfo" class="container ucb-article-tags" itemprop="keywords"> <span class="visually-hidden">Tags:</span> <div class="ucb-article-tag-icon" aria-hidden="true"> <i class="fa-solid fa-tags"></i> </div> <a href="/business/taxonomy/term/2314" hreflang="en">scholarship</a> </div> <div class="ucb-article-content ucb-striped-content"> <div class="container"> <div class="paragraph paragraph--type--article-content paragraph--view-mode--default"> <div class="ucb-article-content-media ucb-article-content-media-above"> <div> <div class="paragraph paragraph--type--media paragraph--view-mode--default"> <div> <div class="imageMediaStyle large_image_style"> <img loading="lazy" src="/business/sites/default/files/styles/large_image_style/public/article-image/anna.png?itok=dwvv-DZS" width="1500" height="1413" alt="Anna Bedell"> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="ucb-article-text d-flex align-items-center" itemprop="articleBody"> <div><p>Anna Bedell has multiple scholarships from CU Boulder to help pay for her education. She’s continued to explore her love of writing as a member of the Her Campus media portfolio, and credits her scholarships with allowing her to focus on this passion.</p> <p>“I was super involved in high school—almost to the point of doing too much,” Bedell said. “In college, I only wanted to pursue things I’m really interested in, and my scholarships have helped make that possible, because I don’t have to worry about the financial aspect of my education as much.”</p> <p>Bedell hopes what she’s learning in her marketing and journalism courses gets her a job in digital media; her dream is to work for the New York Times or Washington Post in marketing or advertising.</p> <p>“That dream could change in a few years, but what’s important is that as students, we have specific goals—and donors are really important in helping us achieve those goals,” she said.</p> <p><a class="ucb-link-button ucb-link-button-black ucb-link-button-regular ucb-link-button-default" href="https://giving.cu.edu/fund/undergraduate-business-scholarship-fund" rel="nofollow"> <span class="ucb-link-button-contents">Help Support Students Like Anna</span> </a> </p></div> </div> </div> </div> </div> <div>Traditional</div> <div>0</div> <div>On</div> <div>White</div> Fri, 06 May 2022 18:50:52 +0000 Anonymous 16910 at /business Will Xu (Acct, Fin, InfoMgt’22) /business/give/2022/05/06/will-xu-acct-fin-infomgt22 <span>Will Xu (Acct, Fin, InfoMgt’22)</span> <span><span>Anonymous (not verified)</span></span> <span><time datetime="2022-05-06T12:39:37-06:00" title="Friday, May 6, 2022 - 12:39">Fri, 05/06/2022 - 12:39</time> </span> <div> <div class="imageMediaStyle focal_image_wide"> <img loading="lazy" src="/business/sites/default/files/styles/focal_image_wide/public/article-thumbnail/william-xu.jpg?h=2c61325d&amp;itok=9Y9kcdCJ" width="1200" height="600" alt="Will Xu"> </div> </div> <div role="contentinfo" class="container ucb-article-tags" itemprop="keywords"> <span class="visually-hidden">Tags:</span> <div class="ucb-article-tag-icon" aria-hidden="true"> <i class="fa-solid fa-tags"></i> </div> <a href="/business/taxonomy/term/2314" hreflang="en">scholarship</a> </div> <div class="ucb-article-content ucb-striped-content"> <div class="container"> <div class="paragraph paragraph--type--article-content paragraph--view-mode--default"> <div class="ucb-article-content-media ucb-article-content-media-above"> <div> <div class="paragraph paragraph--type--media paragraph--view-mode--default"> <div> <div class="imageMediaStyle large_image_style"> <img loading="lazy" src="/business/sites/default/files/styles/large_image_style/public/article-image/will.png?itok=6GZXUjNV" width="1500" height="1397" alt="Will Xu"> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="ucb-article-text d-flex align-items-center" itemprop="articleBody"> <div><p>For Will Xu, being a scholarship recipient is about financial aid—but also freedom.</p> <p>His CU scholarships gave Xu the flexibility to take extra courses he otherwise may have passed on in order to complete his degree requirements.</p> <p>“A class I loved that I felt I was able to take because of my scholarships was Financial Markets and Institutions,” said Xu, who accepted a full-time offer at Goldman Sachs starting this summer. “It really aligned with my passion for finance and was helpful in setting my career direction. There are so many really motivated students at Leeds who contribute to this great academic environment.”</p> <p>Scholarship support also gave Xu the flexibility to pursue extracurricular opportunities. He consulted for a CU startup, held leadership roles with the Delta Sigma Pi business fraternity and started a Phi Beta Lambda chapter at CU Boulder.</p> <p>In his extracurriculars, Xu—a first-generation student whose parents immigrated to babyֱapp from China—keeps in mind the idea of giving back, especially after meeting Jennifer and Eric Ostenson, who support the Hummel Scholars program created by Jennifer’s father, Robert Hummel.</p> <p>“Eric and Jen have been great role models to me,” he said. “Jen said her father always talked about paying it forward, however you can. For students, it means volunteering and being as involved as we can in the Leeds community.”</p> <p>That’s why Xu created the Phi Beta Lambda chapter at Leeds: His introduction to business was through Future Business Leaders of America—the high school version of Phi Beta Lambda. It’s also why he works as an employer relations ambassador for the Career Development Office.</p> <p>“The reason I got involved was to help other students through the process of going to career fairs and meet-and-greet events,” he said. “Anything I can do to help companies engage students is my way of paying it forward.”</p> <p><a class="ucb-link-button ucb-link-button-black ucb-link-button-regular ucb-link-button-default" href="https://giving.cu.edu/fund/undergraduate-business-scholarship-fund" rel="nofollow"> <span class="ucb-link-button-contents">Help Support Students Like Will</span> </a> </p></div> </div> </div> </div> </div> <div>Traditional</div> <div>0</div> <div>On</div> <div>White</div> Fri, 06 May 2022 18:39:37 +0000 Anonymous 16909 at /business Scholarship will Benefit Students Pursuing a Social Responsibility and Ethics Certificate /business/give/2019/04/11/diversity-makes-business-better <span>Scholarship will Benefit Students Pursuing a Social Responsibility and Ethics Certificate</span> <span><span>Anonymous (not verified)</span></span> <span><time datetime="2022-05-06T12:31:47-06:00" title="Friday, May 6, 2022 - 12:31">Fri, 05/06/2022 - 12:31</time> </span> <div> <div class="imageMediaStyle focal_image_wide"> <img loading="lazy" src="/business/sites/default/files/styles/focal_image_wide/public/article-thumbnail/screen_shot_2022-05-06_at_11.45.42_am.png?h=6ce9951e&amp;itok=rHvgidFu" width="1200" height="600" alt="Marc and Heidi Prisant"> </div> </div> <div role="contentinfo" class="container ucb-article-tags" itemprop="keywords"> <span class="visually-hidden">Tags:</span> <div class="ucb-article-tag-icon" aria-hidden="true"> <i class="fa-solid fa-tags"></i> </div> <a href="/business/taxonomy/term/2314" hreflang="en">scholarship</a> </div> <div class="ucb-article-content ucb-striped-content"> <div class="container"> <div class="paragraph paragraph--type--article-content paragraph--view-mode--default"> <div class="ucb-article-content-media ucb-article-content-media-above"> <div> <div class="paragraph paragraph--type--media paragraph--view-mode--default"> </div> </div> </div> <div class="ucb-article-text d-flex align-items-center" itemprop="articleBody"> <div><p></p> <p>Marc Prisant and Michael Leeds (‘74 finance) went to the same junior and senior high schools in New York. By this spring, a total of 94 students will have graduated with an SRE Certificate. “SRE students are creative, empathetic and courageous. They dare to be leaders who apply their business acumen to benefit the most vulnerable,” says Mark Meaney, CESR executive director. SRE students can take electives such as Business Solutions for the Developing World or Sustainable Operations, and they are required to intern or study abroad in a setting where they can learn necessary business skills and see the social impact of businesses firsthand.</p> <p><em>Heidi Heltzel and Marc Prisant. Beagle and his wife, Nancy, live in Boulder and enjoy reading, attending social activities, and planning annual family reunions.</p> <p>With nine grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren, they must continually find larger mountain cabins for their reunions! But retirement has not slowed Beagle’s enthusiasm for CU, his dedication to higher education, and the importance of giving back.</p> <p>Beagle has been a CU donor for more than 30 years and has supported numerous scholarship funds in addition to his own, the Beagle Family Scholarship, which he and his family established in 2006 for CU-Boulder accounting students.</p> <p>“Scholarships can be a life-changing experience,” says Beagle. “My parents were not well-to-do and scholarships enabled me to go to college. Scholarships have been very important in my life; therefore I have a good reason for providing them for others.”</p> <p> </p><blockquote> Melissa Lenyo (‘12 accounting), a recipient of the Beagle Family Scholarship, says, “My future is wide open ... I know it is (because of) the generosity of the Beagle family.” </blockquote> <br> <br> Without the scholarships he received as an undergraduate, Beagle says he would not have gone to college. He attended Miami University in Ohio, where he was awarded two scholarships, then transferred his junior year to the University of Illinois, where he received two fellowships. He earned a bachelor’s degree in babyֱapps and a master’s in accounting. Beagle moved to Boulder and began teaching accounting at CU in 1957. Prior to that he worked for the War Department in Chicago, served in the Navy during World War II, was employed with various accounting firms—including as a partner at Filbey, Filbey &amp; Beagle in Urbana, Illinois, and taught at Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. Beagle taught at CU for 29 years, where he was highly regarded by students, fellow babyֱapp, staff, and administrators. He retired in 1986. <p>In a 1962 letter to Provost Oswald Tippo, Dean Lawrence D. Coolidge wrote:<br> When he came to us, he had a fine background of experience in the public accounting profession and sound academic training ...It remained to be seen whether Professor Beagle would add needed breadth of outlook and interest to our accounting division. Professor Beagle has exceeded our fondest hopes, I think, in this respect. He has shown interest in not only all phases of our accounting curriculum but in the related business fields and underlying quantitative disciplines as well.</p> <p>Beagle saved all his old grade books and he still exchanges letters and cards with former students. In 2009 one of his students made an anonymous donation to the Leeds School and requested that a babyֱapp office space be named in Beagle’s honor. A highlight of Beagle’s year is the annual Leeds Scholarship Event where he, Nancy, and his four daughters, two of whom are CU graduates, get to meet their scholarship recipients.</p> <p><a class="ucb-link-button ucb-link-button-black ucb-link-button-regular ucb-link-button-default" href="http://www.cufund.org/giving-opportunities/boulder-campus/?add_filter=25&amp;filter_type=school" rel="nofollow"> <span class="ucb-link-button-contents">Invest in the Leeds School of Business Now</span> </a> </p></div> </div> </div> </div> </div> <div>Traditional</div> <div>0</div> <div>On</div> <div>White</div> Sun, 06 May 2018 18:28:38 +0000 Anonymous 16906 at /business
