“Breath Assessment of Cannabis Exhalation”
Reason for this Study: The legalization of medical and recreational cannabis use has created a pressing need for enhanced methods of detecting cannabis impairment. This study aims to address this need by collecting breath samples from regular cannabis users to identify the presence and levels of cannabinoids, such as THC. Breath-based detection offers potential advantages over other testing methods, as it could provide a non-invasive and rapid way to assess recent cannabis use. By gathering this data, the study seeks to contribute to the research and development of reliable breathalyzer technology for objectively assessing cannabis intoxication - an increasingly important public safety consideration as the legal landscape around cannabis continues to evolve.
What you will do: This study involves meeting with our research staff a total of three times. The first appointment will take place at our lab in Boulder, while the remaining two will occur in our mobile laboratory at a location convenient to you. All of these appointments will include blood collection, breath collections, and brief, confidential surveys. The type of product you will be asked to purchase will be chosen randomly, like flipping a coin, ensuring an equal chance of being assigned to each product. The second and third appointments will involve using your purchased cannabis.
Who can be in the study: This study is open to individuals between the ages of 25 and 50 years old who have previous experience with inhaling flower cannabis and cannabis concentrates. Participants must be willing to use either inhaled flower cannabis or inhaled cannabis concentrate, and they must also be able to complete the breath sample collection procedures required for the study.
