"Quality of Life Aging Research Trial"

Reason for this Study: Cannabis use is increasing among older adults who are interested in using cannabis products to mitigate issues related to pain, sleep and mood. Therefore, it is important to understand potential risks and benefits of cannabis use and how CBD and THC, which are two different substances called cannabinoids found in cannabis, interact with the body. The purpose of the study is to better understand the effects of hemp-derived CBD with and without THC on pain, sleep, mood, medication use, and cognitive and motor function in adults aged 60 and older. This study is a randomized, placebo-controlled study in which participants will be randomized to receive one of three study medications that they will take for 8 weeks: a CBD only product, a CBD product that includes small amounts of THC, or a Hemp Seed Oil product, which does not contain any CBD or THC. These products are an Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Investigational New Drug (IND).

What you will do: This study involves meeting with our research staff a total of four times over the course of 8 weeks: once at CU Bouler's main campus, twice at our lab in Boulder and once in our mobile laboratory at a location convenient to you. All of these appointments will include blood collection, cognitive tasks, balance tasks, and brief and confidential surveys. The third appointment involves using your study medication.

Who can be in the study: You must be at least 60 years old, be taking medication(s) for pain, sleep or mood, and not be a regular cannabis user.
