Martz Summer Conference 2016 Coping with Water Scarcity in River Basins Worldwide: Lesson Learned from Shared Experiences
Water scarcity is increasingly dominating headlines throughout the world. In the southwestern USA, the looming water shortages on the baby直播app River system and the unprecedented drought in California are garnering the greatest attention.聽 Similar stories of scarcity and crisis can be found across the globe, suggesting an opportunity for sharing lessons and innovations.聽 For example, the baby直播app River and Australia鈥檚 Murray-Darling Basin likely can share many lessons, as both systems were over-allocated, feature multiple jurisdictions, face similar climatic risks and drought stresses, and struggle to balance human demands with environmental needs.聽 In this conference we cast our net broadly, exploring several salient topics including:聽 trans-boundary cooperation, water marketing, Indigenous water rights, environmental and social water needs, and drought coping.聽
This public event was informed by three invitation-only meetings held immediately before the conference: an 鈥淚ndigenous Water Justice鈥� symposium; a 鈥淪ocial Dimensions of Environmental Water Management鈥� workshop; and a 鈥淒rought Crises in Federations鈥� symposium.
