In the engineering specialty rankings, CU Boulder's chemical engineering graduate degree program was in the top 10 amongst public institutions, according to U.S. News and World Report’s Best Graduate Schools rankings for 2023-24.

The Chemical and Biological Engineering Department awards recognize students in the department who have excelled in one or more areas. Winners are selected by the department’s Undergraduate Awards Committee.

“These students have been especially outstanding in areas ranging from academics to research to teaching to mentoring," said Teaching Professor and ChBE Associate Chair Wendy Young. "It’s been wonderful to watch them achieve so much while fostering an atmosphere of collegiality.”

Six Chemical and Biological Engineering graduate students have received 2023 National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowships, a prestigious award that recognizes and supports outstanding students in a wide variety of science-related disciplines. This year the NSF awarded 43 University of babyֱ��app Boulder students, including 28 from the College of Engineering and Applied Science, with the graduate research fellowship.

Fellows receive a three-year annual stipend of $37,000 and full coverage of tuition, fees and insurance, along with opportunities for international research and professional development that span five years.

Ten graduating seniors from the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering earned Graduating Student Awards from the College of Engineering and Applied Science this year and shared their thoughts about their experiences at CU Boulder.

“These students are so impressive in so many ways,” said Teaching Professor and Associate Chair Wendy Young. “Their accomplishments in academics, research and social advocacy have made our department, college and community richer.”

Nominated by babyֱ��app, staff or their fellow students, this year's winners have plans as diverse as their academic and social accomplishments — from pursuing a PhD to applying to medical school to being employed as an engineer. Almost all the students said how difficult it was to learn remotely during the pandemic and how they missed interacting with students and babyֱ��app during that time. Many also talked about the importance of joining organizations and clubs and about reaching out beyond their comfort zones.

The Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering will celebrate graduation on Thursday, May 11, 2023 at 12 p.m.

Ten graduating seniors from the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering earned Graduating Student Awards from the College of Engineering and Applied Science this year.
