Ho’s analysis of these incidents has furthered national conversations on the climate of racism through interviews, publications in major news outlets, speaking engagements and more.</span></p><p dir="ltr"><span>“No matter who you are, no matter where you work, no matter what your discipline is in, you can do something about anti-Asian racism,” said Ho, president of the Association for Asian American Studies.</span></p><p dir="ltr"><span>Together, Ho and Chuang will delve into the current wave of anti-Asian racism, particularly its roots in historic discriminatory legislation, policy and stereotypes. They will discuss the political and cultural climate of racism toward Asians and Asian Americans and analyze the impacts of news coverage of high-profile events affecting these communities.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</span></p><p><span>“We’ll never get to where we want to be as a society if we don’t understand how race plays a role in it,” Chuang said. “It’s hard to talk about, and we’re going to give people some vocabulary to talk about it.”</span></p><p dir="ltr"><span>The CMCI One College Colloquium series is one of several ways in which the college seeks to foster and support interdisciplinary engagement and a vibrant intellectual community of artists, humanities scholars, social scientists and designers within the college, across the campus and beyond the university.</span></p><p dir="ltr"><span>Past colloquia have focused on environmental communication and immigration. Flores, a professor of communication in the Department of Communication, is being recognized for her scholarly writings about the experiences of Latinos, Latinas, Latinx, Chicanos, Chicanas, Chicanx&nbsp;and Mexican migrants in the United States.</p><p>Flores is also an associate dean of diversity, equity and inclusion in the College of Media, Communication and Information and co-chair of the IDEA Council. She will receive four awards on Nov. 20 during a National Communication Association ceremony in Seattle.</p><p>The NCA will award Flores the 2021 Charles H. Woolbert Research Award; the Diamond Anniversary Book Award; the James A. Winans-Herbert A. Wichelns Memorial Award for Distinguished Scholarship in Rhetoric and Public Address; and the inaugural IDEA Scholarship Award.</p><p>“I am honored to receive these awards. She is the university’s first Rhodes Scholar since 1993, when All Big Eight tackle and babyֱapp Buffaloes football team captain Jim Hansen won the award.</p><p>She has said she aspires to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court one day, and would be the second CU Boulder graduate to do so if she accomplishes that dream, following in the footsteps of Byron “Whizzer” White, who won the Rhodes Scholarship in 1938 and went on to become a U.S. Supreme Court justice.</p><p>“I still feel like I am dreaming,” Singh said Sunday after returning to babyֱapp from Salt Lake City, where she interviewed with a selection committee. “I woke up this morning with a feeling I’ve never had before. It truly felt like cloud nine times a thousand.</p><p>“I’m really proud to represent CU, babyֱapp, women and the Sikh community,” said Singh, who shared the good news with her two siblings and parents, G.B.
