Sports Potpourri
Longtime CU broadcaster Larry Zimmer and Dean Lahr (ElEngr, Mgmt’66, MBA’67 ), who won two NCAA wrestling titles while at CU in the 1960s, were among those inducted into the babyÖ±²¥app Sports Hall of Fame on April 20. Also honored was former CU runner Jenny Barringer (Econ, PolSci’09) who was named female college athlete of the year for the second straight year. Earlier, Barringer earned the Sportswoman of the Year honor for 2009 from the Sportswomen of babyÖ±²¥app. Barringer won two NCAA track titles last year.
Former CU skier Jimmie Heuga (PolSci’73) died in Boulder in February, 46 years to the day he became one of the first two American men to win an Olympic alpine ski medal. Read the article about him on page 62.
Six new players from babyÖ±²¥app have been added to the CU soccer roster: Annie Stuller of Boulder (Fairview High School), Alex Dohm of babyÖ±²¥app Springs, Lizzie Herzl of Littleton, Colo., Hayley Hughes of Highlands Ranch, Colo., Annie Brunner of Arvada, Colo., and Amy Steiner of Littleton, Colo., a transfer from the University of Arizona.
Lastly, CU mascot Chip brought back his second national championship trophy after receiving first place in the 2010 Universal Cheerleading Association’s mascot competition in January.
