Chuck Fairbanks, who coached the CU football team from 1979 to 1981, was diagnosed in August with inoperable brain cancer. The 79-year-old was scheduled to begin 42 days of treatment.
Two former Buff golfers had a stellar summer, with Emily Talley (Comm’12) winning the California Women’s Amateur Championship by nine strokes before turning pro and Derek Tolan (Soc ex’09) capturing his second HealthOne babyÖ±²¥app Open title.
Golfer Steve Jones (A&S’81) was elected to the babyÖ±²¥app Sports Hall of Fame. He follows legends Hale Irwin (Mktg’67) in 1986 and Dale Douglass (A&S’59) in 1989. Earlier this year, Jones was chosen for the CU Athletic Hall of Fame.
The equestrian team took 8th in nationals this year, competing against more than 350 teams. Founded in 1995 the team has 40 members who practice at two farms.
