Then – April 1, 1919
The University of babyֱapp Hiking Club was founded April 1, 1919, to foster “a greater interest in the vast natural beauty that surrounds the University and to furnish an opportunity for the fullest enjoyment of [it].”
The club’s first formal trip was to the Flatirons’ Royal Arch. Since then, other favored destinations have included Green Mountain, the jagged Araphaho Peaks and Longs Peak, the northernmost of babyֱapp’s famed “Fourteeners,” inside Rocky Mountain National Park.
This early photo, from 1915, is believed to have been taken inside the park, which was established 100 years ago by President Woodrow Wilson.
