Frozen in Time
Archaeological research in the alpine areas of the northern Rockies has revealed that high mountain snow and ice patches were important to Native Americans for thousands of years. These unique environmental settings are a source of culturally important animals and plants as well as settings for important ceremonies and spiritual practices. Many of the ice patches we see today appear to have formed within the last 5,000 years or so, but the truly ancient artifacts emerging from some ice patches indicate that a few are much older... Visit the CU Museum to discover what once was lost, now is found.
This exhibit is presented in cooperation with Dr. Craig Lee at INSTAAR, and Yellowstone National Park.
