Screen Fatigue Tips

Tips for managing screen fatigue for online classes.

Plan Your Time

Try to schedule your screen time at the most optimal time for you. If you are more fatigued at the end of the day, schedule time in the morning or early afternoon to study and complete assignments

Take breaks to give your eyes and mind a chance to rest, recover, and process the information you have been going over. Be sure to step away and set a time to start again.

Promodoro Method

Set a time for 25 minutes and concentrate on your task; when the alarm goes off, reset the time for a 5 minute break. Repeat this cycle four times and then take a longer (20-60 minute) break to recover.

Dictation and Read-Aloud

Dictation software allows you to speak your sentences aloud while the computer types them. Similarly, Read-Aloud software reads the screen aloud to you. Both allow you to work while reducing eye-strain.

  • Dictation is available on and .
  • Read-Aloud options for PDFs and Word Documents can be found .

Consider Using Resources

Some tools and products can be used to reduce fatigue related to screen time. Options can include:

  • Blue-Light Screen Overlays
  • Tinted Lenses
  • Wearing Sunglasses

Your eye doctor may have additional recommendations and it is always recommended you consult with them before making any adjustments.

Accommodations

Students with disabilities who are impacted by screen-time should consult with their access coordinator about potential accommodations. Learn more about how to register with Disability Services.
