Ariana is a third-year student from Aurora, Colo. as an biomedical engineering major and a BOLD Scholar, as well as a member of SHPE and the Biomedical Engineering Society.
What excites you about being a biomedical engineering student?ÌýPeople typically think of the outside world around us, but not really consider the inside universe. We know a lot about the structure and functions of the human body and in biomedical engineering we’ll better understand the pieces of the puzzle. My dad has diabetes, so bringing normality back to those individuals motivates me to pursue a career in biomedical engineering.
Favorite aspect of being a CU Engineering student?ÌýI really enjoy studying with my friends. When one of my friends gets a bad grade, I love supporting them, and when it happens to me, I appreciate it when they are there for me as well. Another aspect is the friendships along the way I’veÌýmade from BOLD, my major and in a way, I grow as a person because of them.Ìý
Favorite sport on campus?ÌýThe courtyard and pond outside of Norlin Library. I love going there after finals.Ìý
What does being a Latina student in engineering mean to you?ÌýIt’s important to me. You’re a minority within a minority. I’m here because I want to work hard and also share about my culture.
Favorite aspect of your culture?ÌýWe don’t know when to give up. We will try so many ways and we embrace the struggle. When we become vulnerable doesn't mean you’re not capable. In my major we’re always taking classes in mechanical and electrical and feel like we’re always a step behind. But, my family raised me to advocate for myself and that has taught me to ask questions, be humble and not take everything for granted.Ìý
