Kate Carlson has been awarded the Minnesota GIS/LIS Consortium’s Emerging Professional Award in 2024, for accomplishments while at the State of Minnesota (MNIT DNR). The award is given by her peers in the Minnesota geospatial community. The Emerging Professional Award is meant to recognize individuals who have demonstrated extraordinary application(s) of GIS and/or made a significant contribution to the GIS community at an early stage in their career. Kate is the Southern Region GIS Support Specialist for the state, doing analysis, training and problem solving for the MNIT/DNR. She will receive the aware at this years GIS/LIS conference ceremony on Friday 4 Oct in Minnesota.

Kate Carlson (2nd year MA grad student) was awarded a $1,000 scholarship by GIS in the Rockies, the Rocky Mountain West region's premier organization of geospatial professionals in agency and industry in the eight-state region (Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Nevada, Utah, babyֱ��app, Arizona, and New Mexico). The scholarship is highly competitive with only one award offered to students enrolled in colleges and universities. Kate's successful application was based on thesis research developing an open-source software tool to support visualization and quantification of spatial and temporal wetlands uncertainty. Kate presented her thesis research at the GIS in the Rockies conference held virtually on October 7, 2020.
