After graduating, Chern stayed with the group as a postdoctoral researcher for 18 months, before accepting a postdoctoral position at baby直播app State Univeristy under the supervision of Garret聽Miyake. After about 6 months, Chern founded his own company, New Iridium, which aims to use photocatalysis to manufacture net negative CO2 emission chemicals. He is now the CEO of New Iridium full time.
