Prof. Bhuvana Narasimhan was recently awarded a grant from the Spencer Foundation to work on a research project titled "'More is Up': Investigating the Vertical Number Line in Preschoolers".聽
Together with聽graduate student聽Norielle Adricula and a team of undergraduate students, the project will investigate the聽development of聽space-number mappings in preschool children. The project聽aims to find out聽whether聽children who have no聽training in mathematics nevertheless conceptualize numerical聽magnitudes using vertical space. The findings will expand our understanding of聽language and numerical cognition in children which will have implications for early聽mathematical instruction.
