Move-Out Resources
As you are preparing to move-out of the residence halls or apartment style halls, consider these important reminders before you leave.
Mailbox Key Return
- Students should return the mailbox key to the UPS Store® (where the student’s mailbox is located) during their operating hours, and bring their Buff OneCard.
- Failure to return the key will result in a $45.00 lock change fee.
- A lock change fee will be assessed if the mailbox key is not returned to the UPS Store® within seven days of moving out.
- Students should plan ahead to return their mailbox key during hours that the UPS Store is open.
- For students who do not return the key before leaving campus:
- Use a bubble mailer (or other thick envelope)—keys can tear through regular paper envelopes.
- Include a note with the key with your name, mailbox number and hall.
Send to:
The UPS Store
Attn: Key Return
2480 Kittredge Loop Dr.
Boulder, CO 80310
- Students sending the key back by mail must have the parcel arrive by the 7th day following their departure.
- Lost key fees cannot be disputed once they have been posted to the students account.
Change of Address
Students’ USPS mail will automatically be forwarded to their permanent address on file for 90 days. To have mail forwarded to another address, students can submit a request two ways:
- Go the UPS Store® (where the student receives mail) and speak directly with one of the front counter associates, OR
- Send the UPS Store® an email at store6439@theupsstore.com with the student’s full name and new address. In the subject line, write: Change of Address
UPS will forward all first-class mail and parcels for 90 days. Pre-sorted standard and non-profit mail will be recycled. If a student receives mail from carriers other than USPS (UPS, FedEx, DHL, etc.) they will be notified via their babyÖ±²¥app.edu email address with the following options:
- Pay to have the package forwarded to the student’s address
- Pick up the package at The UPS Store
- Have the package returned to sender
If no action is taken, the package will automatically be returned to sender within several weeks of being received by The UPS Store.
Storage
In support of a smooth move-out experience, Residence Life is pleased to provide a list of preferred storage partners.
Resident safety is a top priority and preferred partners agree to abide by a number of expectations designed to help ensure safety of students and their items.
To be a preferred partner in our storage program, vendors must agree to:
- Provide consistent levels of property insurance
- Complete background checks of all employees
- Clearly identify their employees through the use of nametags and attire
- Abide by campus safety, weapons and data security policies

Sustainable Move Out
Donate items right in your res hall. Residence hall students can donate items during the Give and Go Donation Drive. The Environmental Center works with volunteers to collect items in the residence halls and Bear Creek and partners with multiple non-profit organizations to disperse items to those in need. Check the E-Center page for dates and accepted items.
Store or Donate Your Bike
The CU Bike Program can store your bike for $20 over the summer. Storage is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Learn more about summer bike storage.
If you don’t want to keep your bike, you can donate it at the Folsom and UMC bike stations, where it will be refurbished and sold at the annual Bike Sale in the fall.
Hard-to-Recycle Materials
It can be hard to determine what to do with your unwanted items at the end of the year. The Environmental Center’s move-out recycling page has a guide of locations that accept different items for recyling or donation like small appliances, electronics and other household items.
You can also find locations on campus that collect hard-to recycle items like batteries, cell phones or ink cartridges.
