Safety Alert: burglary inside CU Boulder Rec Center

To the CU Boulder community:

On March 31, 2021, at approximately 2:30 p.m., the CU Boulder Police Department (CUPD) was notified of burglary inside the CU Boulder Rec Center, 1855 Pleasant Street. The suspect entered the facility by providing false information to staff and then stole or ransacked multiple backpacks from hallway cubbies and took credit cards and cash from the backpacks. One of the credit cards was used to purchase more than $400 in Visa gift cards at a local convenience store. The suspect is believed to be involved in a similar case at the Rec Center on March 29, 2021, that was reported through our online system.

The suspect was perceived to be:

  • White male
  • 6’2”-6’4”
  • 250-280 pounds
  • Short hair, possibly gray or light-colored
  • Tattoo on right calf
  • Wearing blue shorts and a Reebok sweatshirt
  • Had a cane on March 29, but not on March 31
  • Green and white buff
  • Tan ballcap

CUPD is investigating these incidents. Anyone with information regarding this crime or the suspect’s location is encouraged to contact CUPD at (303) 492-6666.
