Graduated with MA in 2016
I am currently a Master's student in the Department of Linguistics. My interests largely consist of analyses of language policy and planning from a sociocultural perspective. Overall, I am interested in how language policy and planning affect language documentation and revitalization, multilingual education, and intersections of race, class, gender, and sexuality within these. More specifically, I am interested in the ethnography of language policy and how linguistic expertise is conceptualized and negotiated in politics and the media. Previous research in my graduate career has included variationist sociolinguistic analyses of Spanish (comparing “gay lisp†in Spanish and English; dequeÃsmo use based on gender, age, sociobabyÖ±²¥app status; grammaticalization of intensifiers) as well as typological and sociocultural analyses of Qafar (Afro-Asiatic: Eastern Cushitic) (using cognitive experiements as well as narrative to analyse space and frame of reference in bilingualism).
