I draw on cultural anthropology, feminist, and critical theories to conceptualize the processes through which urban youth construct multimodal self-representations. My dissertation context is an African American literature class in an urban Denver public school in which students created digital identity narratives using movie making software. My primary research question examines the different storylines youth take up in crafting their digital self-representations. In this respect, I am interested both in what is and what is not said or shared. My research project was inspired by my prior work as a secondary English teacher.
