In today’s food market, consumers can see some products labeled “Cage-Free” or “Free Range” that indicate a higher quality of the food with a higher price. We went to a local lamb feeder of babyֱapp talking to the owner to see his perspectives on humanely feeding as a ranch owner.

Humane Animals

As a foodie, I am interested in the food and culture world, including the controversial issues around. “Cage-Free” and “Free Range” products become popular as more and more people care about animals’ growing environment and the raising model of farms. Humanely feeding catches publics’ attention while being recognized by the majority in the United States. To gain a complete understanding of humanely feeding, we interviewed people from different aspects: the farm owner, the labors of the farm, and the customers who often shop in organic stores. After some surveying, most customers we interviewed do hold a strong intention on “free range” when they purchase food products. In the documentary, we used the voiceover of the farm owner who does not want to show on the screen. He talked about the difference between programs like Whole Food who set clear requirements for their supplier about “free range.” Humanely feeding is what the majority pursue today, but the real situation is more complicated considering the land usage and cost. Let’s see how a ranch owner raises his lambs with his best efforts.
