CU Psychology and Neuroscience postdoctoral researcher (and recent CU PhD)聽Sarah Banchefsky聽(Social) was in the news, with articles appearing in the baby直播app Arts & Sciences Magazine and the聽Denver Post about some recent research.听The research, done in collaboration with former CU聽graduate student Jake Westfall (now a postdoc at UT-Austin), and Professors Bernadette Park and Chick Judd, examined the relationship between gender, physical appearance, and how likely a given聽person (presented as a photograph)聽was judged聽to be a member of a particular聽occupation. Photographs of women that had been rated聽as more feminine聽were judged less likely to be scientists, whereas there was no impact of gendered appearance on judgments of occupation聽about men.
