Climbing Course Offerings

The CU Outdoor Pursuits offers a wide variety of climbing related courses for our climbing gym members. Take advantage of these great courses that will get you ready for any outdoor climbing adventure.

Belay Tests

All climbers who would like to climb or belay roped climbs must pass a belay test with Outdoor Pursuits staff. Belay tests must be retaken every academic year. This test covers everything taught in the belay course and cannot be taken the same day as your belay course. Tests are available during listed hours, no registration required. Climbing Gym membership required.

Learn to belay your partner on top rope climbs in the gym. This course is for new climbers or anyone who would like a refresher and will teach you the skills required to pass our belay test. No experience necessary. Early registration is recommended due to limited space. Climbing Gym membership required.

  Mondays and Tuesdays
​  5-7 p.m. (Mondays); 7-9 p.m. (Tuesdays)
  Free with climbing gym membership

Learn to lead climb and lead belay in the gym. This course is for climbers already experienced and comfortable with top rope climbing and belaying who would like to learn to lead climb and belay. This course will get you started on the skills required to pass our lead climb and belay test. Early registration is recommended due to limited space. Climbing Gym membership and top rope belay certification required.

Learn the basics of handholds, footwork, body position, efficient movement and more as you build your skills as a climber.

  Sept. 21 or Oct. 6
​  10 a.m.-12 p.m.
  $25

Level up your climbing with more advanced climbing techniques, focusing on efficient movement, route reading and body position. Learn new skills like twist locks, knee bars, heel and toe hooks, dynos and more. Participants should be comfortable moving on the wall and have some experience climbing up to v2 or 5.10/11.

Learn the basics of setting bouldering routes and work with our setters to create some fun climbs!
