Related Communication to Students

On March 26, CU BoulderÌıannounced the lifting of pass/fail restrictionsÌıfor students in most undergraduate and graduate classes this semester. On March 27, the babyÖ±²¥app Department of Higher Education (CDHE) distributed guidance to campuses on several academic and student affairs-related matters. To comply with a new CDHE requirement to identify any pass grade awarded in Spring 2020 representing a grade of C- or higher, CU Boulder added a new P+ grade to the student option grading basis (law students excluded).Ìı

  • For student option classes taken pass/fail (P/F), final grades of C- or above as input by babyÖ±²¥appÌıwill be systematically converted to a P+, whereas grades of D+, D and D- will convert to the standard P grade.Ìı
  • Classes that are only graded on a P/F basis remain unchanged, and willÌı²Ô´Ç³ÙÌıinclude the P+ option.Ìı
  • Transcript notations are being developed to explain these Spring 2020 academic record changes. The P+ grade was developed for Spring 2020 only.

All P+ and P grades earned by students in Spring 2020 will count in credit totals, but neither will calculate in the term or cumulative GPA. Both grades will apply toward the requirements for degree programs (as well as to minors and certificates), and will not be counted in the P grade limits as set by colleges, schools and programs.

A new grade basis analysis report has been developedÌıto assist colleges, schools and programs in monitoring student pass/fail activity and for advising purposes. For the purpose of course requisite checking only, this report will also includeÌıthe original course grade entered by instructors after final grading for Spring 2020. Advisor FAQs haveÌıalso been updated accordingly.
