Meet Our Finalists
Derek DuBose
Derek DuBose is the Associate Vice Chancellor for Enrollment and Director of Admission at the University of Denver. A native of Canton, Ohio, Derek is a first-generation college graduate with degrees from The University of Toledo, and the University of Southern California. Derek is a champion for college access, equity, and opportunity in higher education; and is a firm believer in putting students first. Prior to his move to Denver, his career in enrollment management was nurtured as a member of the leadership teams at USC, The Ohio State University, George Mason University, and Miami University. In 2017, Derek made history by becoming the youngest elected Board Director of the National Association for College Admission Counseling.
Outside of the office, as a lover of the performing arts and former Walt Disney World Entertainer, Derek can still be found on stage for live musical performances, along with mentoring the next generation of college cheerleaders where he was featured in RAH! MTV Cheerleading Challenge with Paula Abdul, and continues to choreograph and judge for several cheer and dance associations.
Amy Hutton
Dr. Amy Hutton is the Assistant Vice President for Enrollment Management at The University of Alabama, overseeing admissions, recruitment, marketing, orientation, and technology. During her tenure at The University of Alabama, Dr. Hutton has enrolled the largest class in university history three years in a row, while simultaneously increasing the diversity and academic profile of each class. To accomplish this, she focused on developing collaborations across campus to strategically align goals and unify outreach. This included redefining the admissions marketing strategy, developing a state-of-the-art welcome center, implementing innovative approaches to recruitment and orientation, redefining financial aid strategies, and building trust amongst the campus community. Dr. Hutton is an internationally recognized expert in the intersection of Enrollment Management and Data Analytics, with many peer-reviewed publications, presentations, and accolades. She was recently selected to be the sole author of the "Admissions Review and Evaluation" chapter of the 6th edition of Fundamentals of College Admission Counseling, soon to be published by the National Association for College Admission Counseling.
Prior to joining The University of Alabama, Dr. Hutton served as the Director of Enrollment Research and Evaluation, Director of Admissions, Head of Stage Management, and Assistant Professor of Theatre at Virginia Commonwealth University. Dr. Hutton still serves as Adjunct Professor of Statistics at Virginia Commonwealth University, where she teaches in the Ph.D. in Education program. Dr. Hutton's experience working on Broadway and as a statistician provides a unique lens to leverage data analytics for strategic enrollment management, while showcasing the power of storytelling.
Ofelia Morales
Ofelia Morales is a leader who is very grounded in her core values: trust, authenticity, integrity, and student-centric. She is a firm believer that hard conversations strengthen relationships and has learned that owning mistakes goes a long way when attempting to build trust. She is relentless in her pursuit of building an inclusive culture where every person on the team feels a strong sense of belonging. She continuously pushes herself to grow as a leader, and does this by staying abreast of new trends, changing landscapes, and impending rules and regulations.
She currently serves in the role of Assistant Vice Chancellor of Enrollment Management, where she is leading transformational change within the division. In partnership with interim campus leaders, she has started the process to create a Strategic Enrollment Management plan, set division-wide goals, identified staffing needs, created new positions, increased salaries where there were inequities, increased engagement with key stakeholders, improved transparency and communication with staff, and is currently executing the division鈥檚 first Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Action Plan.
Prior to this role, Ofelia served as the Director of Financial Aid and has been on the CU Boulder campus for the last fifteen years. During her time at CU, she has demonstrated a passion for serving underrepresented students by expanding the CU Promise program twice, advocating to provide institutional aid for undocumented students, increasing scholarship amounts for first-generation students, creating the Impact Scholarship for outstanding students with high disadvantage, and removing barriers in financial aid processes.
Ofelia earned a BA in Social Work and MBA from the baby直播app State University Pueblo and was the first person in her family to go to college.
She enjoys road trips, coffee shops and spending time with family.
