Learning how light is created and destroyed will be the subject of the CU Wizard show titled 聯Light, Lifesavers and Fireflies聰 on Saturday, April 26, presented by CU-Boulder chemistry Assistant Professor Kathy Rowlen.
聯We will explore everything from fireflies to fireworks,聰 said Rowlen, who will present the show at 9:30 a.m. in room 140 of the Cristol Chemistry and Biochemistry Building next to the University Memorial Center Fountain Court.
The free public presentation of the popular science show is geared to youngsters in grades 5 though 8. Patterned after the television series, CU Wizards is a 20-year tradition on the Boulder campus and one of the university聮s most successful outreach programs.
An assistant professor in the chemistry-biochemistry department, Rowlen聮s research involves the use of lasers to study molecules at surfaces, a project with relevance in fields ranging from medicine to environmental science.
Free parking will be available in lots 378 east of the stadium and 396 off Folsom Street northeast of the stadium. Visitors may park free in the Regent Drive Autopark on most weekends or in the East Euclid Autopark for $1 per hour. Metered spaces on campus are enforced on weekends until 5 p.m.
