Funeral services have been set for Daniel Coursey, a University of baby直播app at Boulder student who died last week while studying abroad at the University of Sussex in Brighton, England.
Services will be at 6 p.m., Friday, Nov. 21, at Notre Dame Catholic Church, 2190 S. Sheridan Blvd., Denver. A reception at John F. Kennedy High School will follow.
Coursey, 20, died of suspected meningococcal meningitis on Nov. 13.
He was first seen at a health clinic at the University of Sussex at 7:30 a.m. Nov. 13 and died in a local hospital three hours later. There were no other reported cases of meningitis at Sussex at the time. The university took immediate steps to identify and treat all persons with whom Coursey had been in close contact.
Meningitis is an inflammation of the membranes of the brain and can be caused by different germs, including bacteria and viruses. The specific strain of the disease that struck Coursey could not be determined because of the high dose of antibiotics he was given at the hospital.
Coursey was a junior majoring in civil engineering at CU-Boulder. His parents live in Denver.
Becky Sibley, Coursey聮s study abroad adviser at CU-Boulder, said the untimely death greatly saddened those who knew him here.
聯Daniel was a charming, bright and outgoing young man who never knew a stranger,聰 she said. 聯In a short time at Sussex he made many friends. We will miss him.聰
Sibley also expressed gratitude to the University of Sussex for the care and assistance given to Coursey聮s family. A memorial service has been held at Sussex and a tree will be planted in his memory.
