CU Boulder Police Sgt. John Zizz teaches an Active Harmer Class at the UMC Feb. 8, 2017

Although one’s odds of being involved in an active harmer situation are close to the chances of being struck by lightning, people who have undergone training and find themselves in the midst of such an incident have a much higher probability of survival.

The next active harmer training sessions arescheduled for9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15,at Old Main Chapel.

The free course, led by a CU police officer, introduces basic response options for an imminent harm situation. The class will review basic statistical data on active harmer incidents and screen the “Shots Fired!” video as a group. After watching the video, the class will discuss how to react if you ever find yourself in one of these situations.

Every effort is made to address concerns, dispel myths and develop response options. This course is designed as a reactive training on how to respond if an incident occurs, regardless of whether it occurs on campus or elsewhere.

If you are not able to attend one of these sessions, CUPD highly recommends watching the on the CUPD website.
