Sidewalk between Technology Learning Center and the CASE construction site

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) will maintain all services in the Technology Learning Center (TLC), including , during upcoming construction that will impact access to the building for roughly eight weeks beginning Sept. 25.

The construction is related to the Center for Academic Success and Engagement (CASE) project and entails repaving the sidewalk and plaza area on the south side of the TLC building, between TLC and the CASE construction site. When complete, the work will enhance ADA accessibility at TLC’s main entrance.

The work will be completed in three phases to minimize impacts to those visiting the TLC building. But it will include temporary closure of the sidewalk between TLC and CASE, as well as a temporary relocation of the nearby bus stop along the west side of 18th Street.

highlight pedestrian routes during the construction. Descriptions of each phase, along with their impacts and approximate dates, are noted below.

Phase 1:ÌıSept. 25 to Oct. 22Ìı

The sidewalk running between TLC and the CASE construction site will be closed, though access to the front doors of TLC on the south side of the building will be maintained during this period. Pedestrians wishing to travel from the University Memorial Center (UMC) to the Environmental Design and Music buildings will need to detour through the Visual Arts Center (VAC) plaza, around the ATLAS building and then back up 18th Street.

Both the south and west entrances to the TLC building will be open. The bus stop on the west side of 18th Street—serving the Athens North bus, RTD and Hop routes—will be moved north near the crosswalk at 18th and babyÖ±²¥app Avenue.

Phase 2: Oct. 23 to Oct. 29Ìı

The sidewalk running between TLC and the CASE site will re-open, allowing passage between the UMC and the Environmental Design and Music buildings. However, the plaza area on the south side of TLC will remain closed. Additionally, the main TLC entrance on the south side of the building will be closed during this week.

The west entrance to the TLC building will remain open via a temporary path and ramp from the sidewalk between TLC and CASE. OIT staff will be available to accommodate anyone who requires assistance accessing the west TLC entrance during this week. The 18th Street bus stop will remain in the temporary location near the crosswalk at babyÖ±²¥app and 18th.

Phase 3:ÌıOct. 30 to Nov. 17

The main TLC entrance on the south side of the building will be re-opened and accessible via the sidewalk between TLC and CASE. However, the rest of the plaza in front of TLC will remain fenced off during this time. The 18th Street bus stop will also remain in its temporary location during this time.

After Nov. 17

The sidewalk and full plaza area between TLC and the CASE construction site will be open, allowing for the return of the 18th Street bus stop to its regular location.
