As our campus community begins a new semester, I want us all to take a moment to consider the well-being of one another and our community overall.

While it鈥檚 easy to see ourselves as an island of education, we are all affected by issues and concerns for family members who may be facing challenges, for our local community, or for turmoil occurring in the nation and in countries around the world.

Nationally, demand for mental health services on college campuses is on the rise, including at CU Boulder. Since 2013 we have seen a 40 percent increase in use of mental health services. It is important that you know that I, the baby直播app and staff of this university care deeply about your well-being and that there are resources to provide help to those who need it.

We have implemented a variety of changes to better address student needs. Some highlights include:

Counseling and Psychiatric Services (CAPS) launched several new programs including:

  • , an online portal that is free for students, graduate students, staff and baby直播app. This self-paced tool allows users to explore three emotional health topics: anxiety, depression and stress. Each module offers information, tips and techniques for improved emotional well-being.
  • Secure, telehealth (virtual) appointments to make it easier for students to receive counseling.
  • A new canine-assisted therapy program featuring two canine therapists on staff to offer additional support for students who may benefit from having a dog present during their visit.

We have expanded our Peer Educator program to include Peer Wellness Coaching听in our residence halls and Bear Creek apartments. Our peer-to-peer programs are designed for students who are interested in building their capacity for health and success. These programs are free and cover a variety of wellness goals including relationships, mental health, self-acceptance and more.

In addition to these new programs and services, we remain dedicated to supporting your overall health and well-being.听Our campus has services and support available for anything from stress and colds to recreation and therapy groups.

As we continue to improve access and support for our students, we urge you to take care of yourself and your fellow Buffs. Have a healthy and productive semester!
