The event will be presented by Sarah Braun, associate director of information risk and compliance, and Catherine Oja, compliance and policy analyst.

Like much of society, CU Boulder is able to use increasing amounts of data and technology to inform decisions across a wide number of opportunities important to the university. To enable the strategic use of data and avoid the ethical challenges associated with “big data initiatives,” CU Boulder is in the process of developing these principles specific to the use of university data that aligns with goals for academic and research success and the values that underpin the university'sability to achieve these goals.

During the session, Sarah and Catherine will facilitate a discussion on:

  • The draft document of “Ethical Data Use Principles”for the CU Boulder campus
  • How we can use data to positively affect the likelihood of academic success, employee and student engagement, or operational effectiveness in a meaningful and impactful manner
  • How and where data is collected at the university and what that data might be
  • Your thoughts and comments on data use principles at CU Boulder

Ample time for an audience Q&A session will be provided. This session will be a great opportunity to preview and provide feedbackabout the principles.
