Where on campus can you find state-of-the-art gaming equipment, sustainable amenities and some of the best views of the Flatirons?
CU Boulder’s newest and largest residence hall, , is now officially open and will welcome more than 700 students—mostly freshmen—to live in its 178,000-square-foot environs this fall.
Gaming, with state-of-the-art consoles and stations on the first-floor, will be one aspect of residential community building for the new hall. Other community and engagement opportunities will be offered to students through , which will focus on four pillars of student development, including global, academic, community and personal responsibility. All 24 residence halls on campus will offer students Residential Experience learning opportunities.
Designed to achieve LEED Platinum certification for green building, the hall also features various modern, sustainable amenities, including electrochromic glass on the south-and west-facing common-area windows, which help with climate control in the building. Student rooms are equipped with sensors that turn off heating or cooling when a window is opened, and the entire building has been outfitted with LED lights and low-flow water fixtures.
One of the newer features for a residence hall, based on student feedback, are bathrooms comprised of fully private bath/shower rooms. Some student rooms will have private or Jack-and-Jill-style shared bathrooms.
“We are very excited about our newest residence hall, which features some of our most thoughtful and innovative approaches to student development cultivated through space,” said Daniel Gette, executive director of . “Although Williams Village East will be our largest residence hall, the architects and builders have designed the building to accommodate smaller wings and community areas, so that students can find their home and friends in a more inviting way.”
Students may also enjoy the outdoor space with many popular amenities, including permanently constructed slack line and hammock poles, outdoor electrical outlets and external wifi.
Perhaps the most impressive feature of all for the seven-story building is the view. With large windows in many of the south and west facing student rooms and common areas, residents will have clear access to watch Boulder’s iconic mountain range—the Flatirons.
Construction of Williams Village East began in fall 2017 and was completed on schedule in July2019.
