The process for integrating the Program in Environmental Design and the College of Media, Communication and Information, charged in spring 2023 by Provost Russell Moore, is underway with full integration expected to take several years to complete.

The integration of ENVD and CMCI is in response to the longstanding need for an academic home for ENVD that would support its research, scholarship and creative work. This was strongly reinforced by the 2019ÌıAcademic Review and Planning Advisory Committee recommendation that ENVD find an “appropriate administrative home.†ENVD is currently housed in the Graduate School.

“The integration of these two strong, public-facing academic entities with creative design as core parts of their mission, both in strong financial positions and with strong leaders, will create an even stronger and more dynamic college to serve students and engageÌıbabyÖ±²¥app,†Moore said.

The administrative oversight of ENVD will move from the Graduate School to CMCI on July 1, 2024. When this happens, there will be no noticeable changes for ENVD students and minimal changes for staff and babyÖ±²¥app. ENVD leadership and CMCI leadership will continue to co-create the vision and brand for the new entity.

Discussions on the major pieces of integration of the two units will continue throughout 2024.
