CU Law Professors Can Comment on Supreme Court鈥檚 Affirmative Action Case

On Oct. 10, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in a case that reconsiders affirmative action in university admissions. In Fisher v. University of Texas, the plaintiff is a white woman who says she was denied admission while less-qualified minority applicants were admitted. When the court last considered the issue in 2003, it re-affirmed that public colleges and universities could consider race as one of many factors in making admissions decisions.

CU Law School students and alumni to teach high school students statewide about the Constitution

More than 75 students and dozens of alumni of the University of baby直播app Law School will teach a lesson on the Fourth Amendment in more than 100 high school classrooms throughout baby直播app the week of Sept. 17- 21 in recognition of Constitution Day. Constitution Day is a national event that annually commemorates the Sept. 17, 1787, signing of the United States Constitution.

Michael Radelet , professor of sociology, is an expert on the use of the death penalty in baby直播app and the United States. He has documented all of baby直播app鈥檚 executions and notes that baby直播app abolished the penalty between 1897 and 1901, came within one vote of abolishing it again in 2009 and has executed only one person since 1967. 鈥淲e've always debated the death penalty in baby直播app, and the general thrust of our history is in the direction of abolition,鈥 he said.

The event, organized by the CU Energy Club, is free and open to the public and will be held from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Glenn Miller Ballroom of the University Memorial Center. The conference includes a poster session, panel discussion, catered lunch and a career fair.

CU law professor takes high school students to Washington for moot court competition

Ten high school students from Denver, Thornton and Lyons are likely in for an experience of a lifetime when a University of baby直播app Boulder law professor takes them to Washington, D.C., for a moot court competition March 29-April 1. While there, they also will meet with U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor and tour the Supreme Court, meet with U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette of baby直播app and tour the Capitol, in addition to visiting several national monuments and museums.
