The IEC seeks temporary babyÖ±²¥app with the working title of Lecturer (Job code 1419) and retired Faculty (Job codes 1620 — Working PERA Retiree — Faculty and 1621 — Working ORP Retiree — Faculty) who are interested in teaching part-time (1-3 courses) for traditional face-to-face instruction.*
Innovative programming, outstanding academic, immigration, and support services, and engaging cultural experiences have consistently made the International English Center (IEC) one of the top destinations for English language study in the United States. Established in 1975, the IEC provides high-quality English language training and cultural programming for high school, pre-collegiate, pre-graduate, and degree students, working professionals, and members of the Boulder community. Programs integrate cutting-edge teaching practices and experiential learning. Courses are offered in traditional, hybrid, and online formats.
Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Planning, preparing, and delivering academic English instruction in all skill areas and proficiency levels. The instruction will be consistent with established quality standards and in coordination with colleagues.
- Using innovative approaches to teaching that follow best practices and current research in second language acquisition, experiential and project-based learning, content-based learning, and instructional technology.
- Developing supplemental materials associated with assigned courses and sharing these materials with colleagues.
- Evaluating students' performance and assigning grades based on standardized rubrics and program-wide student learning outcomes.
- Completing and submitting in a timely manner documentation such as syllabi, post-syllabi, attendance records, course evaluations, and grades.
- Attending all babyÖ±²¥app meetings and in-service workshops.
- Maintaining currency in the field through participation in professional development activities.
What We Require
- Master’s degree or higher in TESOL, or Master’s degree in closely related field with proof of graduate-level coursework successfully completed in the following areas:
- Language teaching methodology
- The nature of language (e.g. linguistics)
- English structure
- Second language acquisition
- Intercultural communication
- Practicum
- Outstanding oral and written English communication skills.
- Flexibility and collaborative approach to work responsibilities.
- Experience working with online learning platforms, Canvas preferred.
- Work is expected to be performed in person in Boulder, CO.
What We Can Offer
Compensation is $11,035 ($11,477 from the Spring 25 semester) for a 100% lecturer position (20 teaching hours per week) for an 8-week session. Any appointments less than 100% (20 teaching hours per week) will be paid a prorated amount based on teaching hours at the rate of $68.96 ($71.73 from the Spring 25 semester) per teaching hour and duration of appointment.
A combination of appointments of 50% or above (10 teaching hours) for a semester are eligible for health benefits:
