  • When there are no Environmental Center job postings on Handshake, we do not have openings.ÌýYou can still apply here, and your application will be reviewed for any openings that come up during the academic year.
  • You can apply for multiple positions at a time with just one application, or submit an open application to be considered for any open positions that may become available. When you complete an online employment application, you can specifiy which positions or type of work you are most interested in.
  • This is a competitive application process! We regularly receive more than 200 applications for the academic year.
    • For Fall 2024 we received over 250 applications for 25 openings.
    • Make your application stand out by telling us as much as you can about your interests and background. The more the better.
    • Those selected for interviews should hear back by email the week before school starts.
    • Applicants not hired into current openings will continue to be considered for any additional openings that may become available in the academic year.

The Environmental Center can only hire current students who are officially registered in a degree-seeking program at CU Boulder.

Most Environmental Center positions begin atÌýStudent Assistant IÌý($16Ìýto start). Some positions that require more specific experience and skills, for example videographer or graphic designer, begin atÌýStudent Assistant IIÌý($16.85Ìýto start).ÌýStudent specialist or lead positions will begin atÌýStudent Assistant IIIÌý($17.69Ìýto start).

Internships

The CU Environmental Center can sometimes work with an individual student to arrange a semester-long internship.

  • Internships are available on a very limited basis, depending on the priorities and projects of the current semester, capacity of supervisors and skills and interests of applicants.Ìý
  • Academic credit for an internship must be facilitated and approved by your academic major department.
  • Students can work with the E-Center as a paid employee, paid intern for a specified term,Ìýor intern for academic credit. In order to earn academic credit while in a paid position, the student will need to work with the supervisor and internship advisor to identify desired and approved learning outcomes.

Inclusivity and Diversity

Social justice initiatives are key components of sustainability.Ìý The Environmental Center strives to create programs, activities and an organizational culture that embrace social justice, inclusivity and diversity.Ìý Applications are sought from all students including, but not limited to, underrepresented students at CU:Ìý students of color, first-generation students, students with disabilities, LGBTQI students, low-income students and non-traditional students.Ìý Undergraduate and graduate students who work with the CU Enviornmental Center are engaged in a variety of majors such as (but not limited to) engineering, business, communication, political science, architecture, biology, education and environmental studies.

Academic year openings

Positions for the academic year are filled in August of each year, or in the Spring semester for the following year, with only a few openings at other times.ÌýApplications are accepted year round with the majority of interviews held at the start of the Fall semester.Ìý Most students are hired for the full Fall to Spring academic year, with work commitment varying from 5 - 20 hours per week depending on position. ÌýAll students who are interviewed each August will be asked to hold the date of a required-attendance staff work retreat in September in case they are hired.Ìý
