Engineering Connections Student Assistants

Engineering Connections is our residential community for all first-year students in the College of Engineering and Applied Science, and we are looking for students to join our team! 

Specific functions include: 

  • Perform administrative tasks related to the full functions of the Engineering Connections office:  
    • Assist with Engineering Connections events and programs 
    • Provide support to Engineering Connections professional staff 
  • Staff the Engineering Connections front desk and perform related duties:  
    • Greet guests and assist in navigating their questions and needs 
    • Answer central emails and phone calls 
    • Perform other central, front desk-related administrative tasks 

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:   

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills  
  • Strong organizational and time management skills  
  • Ability to work collaboratively 
  • Interest in event planning and program development  
  • Interest in working with first-year students and residential experience programs  
  • Experience working in administrative support or customer service positions 
  • Ability to work in person on campus 
  • Student employees working for CU Boulder are limited to a maximum of 25 hours per week, or 50 hours per bi-weekly pay period, during the fall and spring semester 

What we’d like you to have:   

  • Ability to anticipate the needs of existing and new students and efficiently manage them  
  • Experience dealing with sensitive and personal information  
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office Suite and Google Drive  
  • Experience with database and data-entry software  
  • Enrolled in a Major within CEAS  
  • Potential to continue working in the following calendar year  
  • Confidence using Buff Portal, CU Class Search, and Shopping Cart/Enrollment System

Summer opportunities

Summer positions include primary coverage on Tuesdays, Wednesday and Thursdays, Friday with four-hour morning or afternoon shifts each day Between 8 a.m.-5 p.m. A full- to half-day shift for Monday is required. Specific functions include:  

  • Facilitating Summer Series Workshops (30%)  
  • Administrative Support – In Person (30%)   
  • Program and Event Planning Support – In person (40%)  

Availability in the second and third weeks of August during Engineering Launch needed! 

Preferred qualifications: 

  • Reliable transportation to work 
  • Administrative background and familiarity with various curriculum requirements and site navigation. 

Wellness Leadership (Fall/Spring) 

Engineering Connections Wellness and Health programming emphasis works in coordination with CAPS and Academic Success. Primary coverage on Wednesday afternoons and evenings. 

  • Sophomore or above 
  • Interest and experience in leading group discussions on a variety of topics impacting students wellness, academics and holistic transition to college. 
  • Additional Health Promotions training will be required. 
  • Familiarity with CAPS and wellness resources on campus 
  • Ability to make good decisions, demonstrate discretion and good judgment 
  • 4 hours/week in addition to the basic E.C. student staff duties 

Event Staff (Fall/Spring) 

Engineering Connections activity and special event programing emphasis with weekly coverage on Tuesdays evening (4:30-7:30 p.m.) and monthly coverage on Wednesday evenings. Additional qualities:

  • Current resident of Williams Village 
  • Strong customer service and relationship building skills  
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
