Who We Are

The College of Engineering & Applied Science (CEAS) Student Support & Advising Services (SSAS) unit is committed to building collaborative, student-centered relationships that support achievement of academic success, promote personal and professional development, and foster a sense of community. Under the guidance of the CEAS Academic Advising staff, Engineering Peer Advisors will:

  • Provide resources to assist students with major requirements, course selection and with drafting long-term degree plans.
  • Help students learn about academic resources, and pertinent academic policies and procedures.
  • Assist students in exploring opportunities to customize their college experience.
  • Provide assistance with the course registration system.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Serve as a positive role model, leader, and a resource for students.
  • Build relationships with fellow engineering peers by helping them with degree plans, providing academic resources, and exploring opportunities to customize their college experience.
  • Help students navigate the college environment and successfully transition to CU Boulder.
  • Provide appropriate referrals to campus resources based on students’ needs.
  • Meet with students one-on-one and present information to students in group settings.
  • Answer incoming general advising emails from current and prospective students.
  • Attend first-year student activities and events as needed.
  • Support professional staff with projects as assigned.

What We Can Offer

The anticipated starting wage is $17 per hour.

Qualifications

What We Require

  • Undergraduate student currently enrolled in the College of Engineering and Applied Science.
  • Good academic standing with a GPA of 2.0 or higher.
  • Must be able to commit to the position for at least a full year, May 2024 - April 2025.
  • Desire and enthusiasm to support CU Boulder students in succeeding and graduating.
  • Must be available to work outside of normal business hours as needed.

Expectations for Hours

  • Hours vary over the summer, but we anticipate approximately 5-10 hours per week. Some work may be in person and others will be remote.
  • During the academic school year, students will work approximately 5-10 hours per week when classes are in session.
  • Participate in training to prepare for registration assistance, answering general academic support questions and hosting peer to peer drop-in hours.
  • Attend team meetings throughout the year.
  • Key dates - peer advisors are required to be present for the dates below. We will work with your schedules if these dates do not work.
    • Monday, May 12,Ìýand Tuesday, May 13,Ìýare the tentative dates for orientation and general advising training. These will be held in person.
    • Wednesday, May 24,Ìýis the tentative date for registration help room training. This will be held via Zoom.

What You Will Need

  • Ability to work independently as well as on a team.
  • Sensitivity to and appreciation of cultural, political, and geographical differences, with ability to work well with and students and staff from around the world.

What We Would Like You to Have

  • GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Familiarity with common college policies and procedures.
  • Experience with university's degree audit system.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Detail oriented.
