Paid Summer Internship for MS and PhD students in Seattle Washington

Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is seeking a graduate-level intern to assist the Director of State and Regional Affairs identifying opportunities for PNNL to deploy its vast expertise in for the benefit of the Pacific Northwest. The Director is has mentored a number of early-career scientists and engineers who are exploring careers in science and technology policy.

The intern will work closely with the Director to compile a list of scientific and technical needs of the state and region and identify scientific and technical expertise at PNNL that could inform those needs. The portfolio of issues will include energy, cybersecurity, and other areas where PNNL’s expertise in complex systems modeling and data analytics – combined with subject matter expertise in chemistry, physics, biology, computational sciences, materials science, and climate and earth systems science – could be helpful to the region.

Specific duties include web-based research scientific/technical issues and policy issues; assistance with meeting planning, talking points and briefing materials; drafting answers to inquiries from policy makers; and collaborating with the Director to develop new opportunities for engagement.

The project is paid hourly for work done on a full- or part-time basis between June and September, 2018. The position is located in Seattle (preferred) or Richland WA.
