The Office of Undergraduate Education (UE) is a campus office reporting to the Provost. Its charge is to examine the entire undergraduate student experience, assess outcomes, identify gaps, and launch and support student-facing campus initiatives. Current key projects in UE include a focus on first-year academic programs with the development of First Year Seminars; the coordination of undergraduate academic policies; the development of a coordinated campus advising structure; and the coordination and assessment of campus retention and persistence initiatives. We are currently working on a two-year initiative, Foundations of Excellence, which is focused on optimizing the first-year experience of our undergraduates.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee Office of Undergraduate Education courses and related initiatives
- Provide training for FYXP staff instructors and coordinate staff stipends.
- Partner with the Office of the Registrar to manage logistics related to student registration.
- Partner with the Assistant Vice Provost for Advising and Exploratory Studies to promote FYXP courses to incoming first-year students.
- Coordinate course assessments.
Student Success Initiatives
- Serve as Office of Undergraduate Education sponsor of Civitas predictive analytics pilot program and partner with the Civitas team to review and assess outcomes of the Civitas pilot.
- Work with the Assessment Coordinator and Director of the University Exploration and Advising Center to review Civitas analytics for the Program in Exploratory Studies.
- Work with cross-campus partners including representatives from schools & colleges, Division of Student Affairs, and Financial Aid to develop a new campus persistence team to work with Civitas outcomes in anticipation of Civitas expansion to the campus.
- Utilize persistence data to develop an overall student success strategy for undergraduate students and assess the efficacy of new programs and initiatives.
- Coordinate midterm feedback initiatives and develop an overall strategy for coordinated babyÖ±²¥app involvement.
- Collaborate broadly across campus to develop and support new student success initiatives in undergraduate education.
- Work with the Assistant Vice Provost to engage the advising community in student success initiatives and to leverage the Student Success CRM project.
Office of Undergraduate Education
- Serve as Office of Undergraduate Education representative to the RAP Council, Math Placement Committee, Digital Accessibility Committee, and other committees that may be created to support student success initiatives and programs.
- Represent Office of Undergraduate Education at admissions and FYSM events, and serve as a resource to Office of Undergraduate Education colleagues particularly related to student success programs and new initiatives.
- Supervise Director of International Student Academic Success and Assessment Coordinator for Academic Affairs, and Faculty Director of the First-Year Seminar Program.
Human Resource and Fiscal Management
- Provide effective and efficient management of the human and financial resources within the position’s areas of responsibility, including (but not limited to)
- Management, supervision, and development of staff reporting to the AVP;
- Management of operating budget;
- Development of business plans in collaboration with the Vice Provost and Associate Vice Chancellor;
- Oversight of budget in programs reporting to the AVP.
