A growing number of vulnerable communities are dependent on the combined resilience, sustainability and equity of urban structures. Meanwhile, the existing models of disciplinary research and training in engineering are insufficient to comprehend and plan for these rising needs in the face of rapid urbanization. A convergent approach is needed in both engineering research and education to effectively meet these challenges.
The Resilient Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity IRT (RISE) will converge and leverage new developments and world-class expertise in disaster resilience, sustainable design, and social justice across engineering and the CU Boulder campus. Leveraging existing world class facilities on campus, our team will facilitate a paradigm shift in research and education with the potential for extensive societal impact in the field.
Faculty within the theme represent six departments in the college of engineering and four departments within the broader CU Boulder community. Altogether, there is potential for interaction in many areas of study such as engineering, geological sciences, business, baby直播apps, law and public health.
Such a combination is unprecedented and puts the group in a unique leadership position globally, as there is no current center that features all of these topics and has all of these centralized resources and partnerships at its disposal.
