babyÖ±²¥app Law students seeking reciprocity from other law schools

For babyÖ±²¥app Law students and alumni who are looking for a job outside babyÖ±²¥app, reciprocity is one tool that may help you in your job search. Reciprocity is an exchange of access to career resources for law students and/or alumni from other law schools. If you are interested in requesting reciprocity from another law school, please follow these steps:

  1. Find the law schools in the geographic area in which you are interested, then review their reciprocity policies. Simply searching for the name of the law school and the word "reciprocity" will usually bring you straight to their reciprocity policy. 
  2. Make sure that the reciprocity policy will suit your needs! Some law schools require you to physically be in their office to review job postings and others will charge you a fee in addition to being granted reciprocity to view job postings. Many law schools will only grant reciprocity to certain classes (1L/2L/3L/grad). So, be sure that you choose the school(s) that will work for you.
  3. Email Julie Ireland at LSCareer@colorado.edu with the names of the schools and links to their policies for the top three schools for which you would like to receive reciprocity. Please list these law schools in order of preference and we will make the request on your behalf. If for some reason your first choice denies reciprocity, we will then contact your second and then third choice. You may receive reciprocity from only one school at a time.
  4. If reciprocity is granted, students and alumni are expected to honor the reciprocity policy of the host school.

It is important to remember that reciprocity is only one method in the job search process. If you are looking for a job outside of babyÖ±²¥app, we encourage you to explore other resources for finding employment. These include joining local, state and national bar associations; attending networking events; reviewing local advertisements; using other job banks such as the BYU Job Bank, LinkedIn, and Indeed; and especially utilizing our alumni network.

Non-CU students seeking reciprocity from babyÖ±²¥app Law

The Career Development Office at the University of babyÖ±²¥app Law School grants reciprocal services to students and graduates of ABA-accredited law schools that accord reciprocal privileges to babyÖ±²¥app Law students and graduates. This policy will be reviewed periodically to keep pace with employment demands of the legal community. This policy has been occasioned by the heavy demands of numerous law students and graduates attracted to babyÖ±²¥app and the Boulder/Denver Metropolitan area.

  • The first request for reciprocity from a law school whose reciprocity policy allows free, remote access to job postings to our students and graduates will be accepted. A second request from the same law school may need to be matched by a request from a babyÖ±²¥app Law student or graduate, depending on our overall balance between reciprocity grants and requests. If an imbalance occurs, we may implement a temporary freeze until a balance is achieved.
  • Reciprocity requests from law schools who do not offer free, remote access to job postings will be up to our discretion.
    • We reserve the right to limit reciprocity grants to schools located in areas of mutual interest to our students and graduates. Reciprocity may be refused due to an imbalance between the overall number of incoming and outgoing reciprocity requests.
  • Reciprocity will not be granted from August 1 to November 1. All reciprocity requests that are granted between June 1 and July 31 will end on August 1.
  • Reciprocity requests may take up to two weeks to process.

Requests for reciprocity must be sent via email to lscareer@colorado.edu from the student or graduate’s Law School Career Services Office. The email should include the school’s reciprocity policy and the student’s grad date and email address. If it is not clear in the reciprocity policy, the email should also state whether or not the requesting law school will offer in-kind access to students and graduates of the University of babyÖ±²¥app Law School.

Services available under a reciprocity grant:

  • Free, remote access to our 12Twenty site, CDOnline, will be provided for two months from the date the requesting student receives access to the site. This access allows students and graduates to search our current job postings, upload documents, and apply to job postings.
    • When responding to notices found in our 12Twenty system, reciprocal students are required to let employers know that they found the job listing through a reciprocal agreement with the University of babyÖ±²¥app Law School.
    • Reciprocal students shall not apply to job postings which state that the opportunity is only open to babyÖ±²¥app Law students or alumni.
    • Reciprocal students may not share their login credentials with any other individual.
  • Access to limited additional resources, including career-related books, directories, and handouts that can be found in the Career Development Office.

Services NOT available under a reciprocity grant:

  • Career counseling, resume reviews, CDO events, on-campus interviewing, the CDO’s 12Twenty resource library, or services and sites subscribed to by the CDO (such as BYU Job Bank, Govt. Honors & Internship Handbook, etc.).

All students and graduates who are granted reciprocity are expected to follow the rules and policies of the University of babyÖ±²¥app Law School. Anyone who misuses our facilities or does not comply with our policies will have their reciprocity privileges revoked and will be denied any future reciprocity or subscription requests.

Subscriptions

babyÖ±²¥app Law offers 3-month guest subscriptions to our 12Twenty site, CDOnline, at the rate of $50. Paid subscriptions are not subject to our reciprocity blackout period. Subscriptions are non-refundable and follow all of the above services and restrictions as a reciprocity account.
