Xin Qian Focus Area: Heat and Phonon Transport - Ronggui Yang Lab
Xin is a third-year PhD student working with Professor Ronggui Yang. His work focuses on modeling and characterizing thermal transport properties in novel materials with promising applications in solar cells and light emitting diodes and batteries to address the heat dissipation and safety concerns in these materials.
Recently, he is studying the effect of electrochemical tuning of the thermal conductivity of electrode materials in lithium ion batteries. He discovered that thermal conductivity of electrode materials is indeed a dynamical property depending on the charge/discharge level, which is however usually neglected when modeling heat dissipation in batteries. His work also sheds some light on the search for materials with tunable thermal transport properties.
