Margaret Berg is Professor of Music Education and Associate Dean of Graduate Studies at the University of babyÖ±²¥app. She currently teaches graduate courses in music education including sociology of music education and qualitative research methods. Dr. Berg received a BM in violin from the Cleveland Institute of Music,ÌıBS in music education from Case Western Reserve University, MEd from the University of Cincinnati, and PhD from Northwestern University. She is co-author of the book The ASTA String Curriculum: Assessment Companion, as well as numerous book chapters and articles focused on sociology of music education, music teacher mentoring, music teacher education, and school orchestra and applied studio curriculum and assessment. Dr. Berg has published articles in research journals (Journal of Research in Music Education, Bulletin of the Council for Research in Music Education, Psychology of Music, Journal of Music Teacher Education, Music Education Research), practitioner journals (American String Teacher, Music Educators Journal), and chapters in several books including the Handbook of Qualitative Research in American Music Education, The Musical Experience: Rethinking Music Teaching and Learning, and Teaching Music Through Performance in Orchestra. She has made presentations on string orchestra curriculum and assessment, mentor development, effective practice, chamber music, and teacher education at the ASTA National Conference, NAfME Music Research and Teacher Education National Conference, Society for Music Teacher Educators Symposium, International Symposium on Assessment in Music Education, the American Educational Research Association Conference and at several state MEA conferences. Dr. Berg currently serves on the editorial board for the Bulletin of the Council for Research in Music Education and Journal of Music Teacher Education. Dr. Berg has served on the National ASTA Executive Board and was awarded the 2017 ASTA String Researcher Award.
