SLPA Certificate Courses

The SLPA Certificate program includes 7 credits of graduate coursework (listed below) completed in 1 semester (offered in both fall and spring through CU Continuing Education) via distance learning (SLHS 5032) and internship placement (SLHS 5930).

SLHS 5032: Competencies & Strategies for the SLPA3$1440In this online course, students will learn about SLPA roles and responsibilities, scope of practice, ethics, universal health and safety precautions and procedures, patient confidentiality, service delivery, screening, assessment, intervention, data collection, documentation, special populations, assistive technology, cultural-linguistic diversity, reflective practice and professional development. This course may require online class meetings.
SLHS 5930: SLPA Internship4$1920

Internship placement with a school-based ASHA-certified SLP for 180 clock hours (15-18 hours per week) including a minimum of 50% supervised provision of 80 hours of direct intervention (in-person or virtual with students on caseload) plus a minimum of 100 indirect hours. Interns will complete file reviews, scheduling, research, evidence-based practice, materials preparation, intervention and IEP meeting observation. 

SLPA students must provide their own transportation to and from their internship site. Out of state students are considered if they can arrange their own internship placement.
