It's Halloween, Jeff's favorite time of year and today he's walking Brad in our guest, Desiree Pacheco, from IESE in Barcelona, through a tasting of assorted pumpkin beers. Enjoy and cheers.

We haven't heard from Bucha Yeah, me. So Brad is going to look for hard kombucha. That's just the way we rolled out the Deming Center for Entrepreneurship at Leeds School of Business. We indeed have hard Seltzer, hard kombucha and our refrigerator and we used to have some CBD sodas, but they were not very good. You drink them and just so we actually had a really weird mushroom tea from some local startup. Did you ever have that? Stephanie? No, you're very fortunate because the mushroom tea? Well, how describe it so I used to be a river guide. When sometimes river guides aren't the most hygienic people, you may not be aware of this. And sometimes they would store their wetsuits in the winter and like a certain office that belonged to me. That's what it brought me back to those days when I smelled the smell of mushroom tea, the smell of wet mildewy wetsuits

This is normally a really great local startup that don't want to name because we're criticizing them. At least I am. I think this was a test they tried. And I think it didn't work out well. So they were like, well, we don't want to sell this. What can we do? Let's give it to you.

So we were wild provision while provision is a spin out from this brewery for noses now we had some debate I thought it was named after the four owners dogs their noses coming together around a Bruton I don't know if that's true. Joe, we gotta get booked out for Newsweek and find out the real story like I do knows that for noses has a dispensary on one side of it and a doggie indoor swimming pool on the other side. Which you know, it's a pretty cool name. Might be a pumpkin beer that I would like it might be it might be I'm trying my best to sell. Yeah, it goes right there to my taste. Oh, you're not gonna taste them at all. Hell no, I have. Our audience is going to not be entertained. You pick one that you think that I try this one. So this is an imperial pumpkin ale. This is called pump action. I mean, you gotta love it. Brad's got a gun on the label. A guy blowing pumpkins out of a gun. You know you like that? You like shot guns. Beautiful shot gun. No, it's been going on forever. I mean, pumpkin beer. So like, originally, like the origins of pumpkin beer would have been actually in like maybe even medieval times, because they didn't have a lot of grains sometimes. And they're like, well, well, we got that starch that we can add yeast to delete the sugar and the starch is inserted in alcohol. And pumpkin will do it. So it's like so this mouthwash? No, this has a lovely night. Stephanie. What are your thoughts? Yes, Stephanie.

Okay, so this this beer is brewed with multiple adjuncts. adjuncts are things that aren't malt and barley and hops and yeast that are added to beer to make them good. Well, not that you can make good beer without them. This one has pumpkin of course brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, all spice and cloves. This is this is ridiculous. It is so good. It is such a fine here these Could you take it home? I have like a 12 pack of

No no no. The only time I got sick a pumpkin beer. I'll tell you a story real quick. Thanks. Producer Joe's. Like leaving with after Jake T that's how bad he was my story real quick. So one time, right. I threw my jack lanterns out and like Arden I lived in Knoxville, Tennessee, we grew volunteer pumpkins. That means the pumpkins just sort of came out of the ground when you throw them out the compost in the garden. And we had like 50 pumpkins and I was the Tennessee State homebrew of the year as I may have mentioned on the podcast before the time. So we made 15 gallons of pumpkin beer for Halloween party we're having now 10 gallons of pumpkin beer got drank. But that meant I had five more gallons a pumpkin beer. So my wife and I drank pumpkin beer. We drank it through Thanksgiving, we were like, Yeah, and that's kind of cool. You know, through Thanksgiving, the fall season, you can all see that, right? That's a reasonable thing to do. Then Thanksgiving came and went and we still had like, you know, two and a half gallons of pumpkin beer. And so I was like, well, maybe we'll add more cinnamon to it. And it'll be like a Christmas beer. And we tried that and we drink it and after a while. I will admit, I got so sick a pumpkin beer. I could not drink it anymore. But that was a long time.

Let's try this now you're bound to like this one. This is called atomic pumpkin from New Belgium Brewing Company. This is a special release of what was he called the Voodoo Rangers line. This one has special crossed out and it says spicy.

Roby actually made Rogen in in anyway, they made a really good in Portland. Okay. I actually almost had an internship there. I called the brewer and the founder, John Mayer. I was like, Hey, I'm looking for a job in the brewing industry. He's like, Oh, yeah, we got some barrels that need moving. That'd be good. I'm like, Yeah, okay. So, yeah, I'm like, Okay, this master student in business can what kind of compensation that oh, well, we got a cot. You could pull out in the brewery, you could stay there, I guess for a week.

All right. So this one is by a non babyÖ±²¥app brewery. I do not know the proper pronounciation so forgive me if you do is el YSIA en Eliassen. And this one is called the Great Pumpkin, Imperial pumpkin ale. This isn't Seattle, the pumpkin had and actually you'll be happy to know bread. I have this came in a pumpkin beer 12 back so this probably past pumpkin beer season by the time you hear this podcast, but keep an eye out for it next year taster Do you have?

No, I think it's sold out pretty quickly because Eliason did something really cool. They put four different pumpkin beers into a 12 pack. I actually texted the Deming center a picture of it. Everyone said Yeah, except Brad. This one is the Imperial pump. Gail had no one called Ponca Chino, that was a coffee beer with pumpkin which we'll learn more about in just a moment. Then they also had one which is called Dark of the Moon that had a werewolf on it. That was Imperial Stout with pumpkin. That one was really nice. I drank all of it first. And they had one more that was just a straight up pumpkin ale. So this is Imperial pumpkin. Whenever you see Imperial water bottle, that means Be careful. Otherwise, you'll end up like me last time I went to Seattle and drink a bunch of Imperial IPAs and then don't remember what happened. Can

The other two even though it's actually stronger. This one's 8.4% Really nice though. The Great Pumpkin is the world's first Imperial pumpkin ale. It's packed with pumpkin and toasted pumpkin seeds, and spiced with cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and all spice. That is a fine, fine beverage. Oh my god. What do you think taster?

But you can learn you can aspire you can really develop your tastes for pumpkin beer. And it'll be something you look forward to and you can celebrate throughout the Halloween season. Well, we were just at their spin out brewery so they like made a separate brewery just to brew sour beer and Pilsner that's in Boulder and like an office park. I drove past it a dozen times I had no idea. It was fantastic. And ya know, the pump action is good too. So if you're looking for I don't know how far foreign is distributed, probably not outside the front range of babyÖ±²¥app but I would say of these I would recommend the most for knows is the one you can actually get if you're not in babyÖ±²¥app is probably atomic pumpkin from New Belgium Brewing Company, which is also brewed in Asheville, North Carolina as well. It's easy to find just look for a voodoo Ranger candidates orange, then actually the Eliasson is well, Desiree gives the Eliasson biggest recommendation. And that one probably is nationally district exempt from Seattle and I got it here in Boulder. And if you just are like an evil evil son of a gun or daughter of a gun, and you just want to get some nightmare fuel going. This is what I drink while I've murdered everyone at my Halloween party. I mean, of course just in the sense of a game. It's just just in the game. Right. So
